Richard Neal enjoyed a fine weekend with the bat, making 50 for the 2nd XI on Saturday and following it up with a Cockspur Cup century for the 1st XI on Sunday.

1st XI, Cockspur Cup 1st Round
Ton-up Richard hits top gear in rout
Richard Neal joined the elite ranks of HSP centurions as the 1st XI destroyed Whitchurch in the first round of the Cockspur Cup. Neal hit 103 out of an HSP total of 217-8 in 45 overs, before Paul Mather ripped through the Shropshire side's line-up with 5-11 in 6 overs, as Whitchurch were bowled out for a paltry 52.

Jones seals semi-final spot
Opener Mark Jones scored 73 to set the 1st XI on course for a big score against South West Manchester. Darren Frost made 42 and Kevin Anderson 46 not out in the HSP total of 226-5. Paul Mather then took 3-13 from 7 overs and James Hart and Kevin Anderson picked up two wickets each as South West were bowled out for 103 to cement HSP's place in the Surridge semis.

Seconds live to fight another day
Richard Neal warmed up for Sunday with a half-century as the 2nd XI beat South West Manchester by 37 runs to keep their hopes of qualification alive. Paul Delargy (38) and Hirak Ghosh (33) contributed to the HSP score of 213-8, while a superb bowling display from Steve Hart (3-6 from 9 overs) took South West out of the running. The tail then got themselves out to Mark Hardman, who ended up with four wickets as South West were bowled out for 176.

3rd XI, Pochin Cup 1st Round
Monsoon washes out finely-poised match
The 3rd XI's rare treat of being able to play on the Hindley ground ended in a wash-out with the game against Bretherton at a crucial stage. Batting first, HSP had reached 77-4 in 27 overs with opener Billy Moffatt unbeaten on 27 not out when a flash of lightning in the distance caused the umpires to bring the players off. Within minutes the rain arrived and the ground was soon under water, ending all hopes of a restart.

Sunday XI, West Lancashire League North Division
Sunday side outgunned by Haydock
A weakened Sunday XI went down to a heavy defeat at Haydock. The home team batted first and racked up 219-4 in 37 overs before declaring. The HSP youngsters made a brave attempt but were never in with a shout, captain Michael Arrowsmith top scoring with 27 in the final total of 101 all out.

Cockspur Cup

The second round of the Cockspur Cup will take place this Sunday, 18th May, away at Blythe CC, who are based near Stoke-on-Trent and play in the North Staffs and South Cheshire League.
