How
To Find Us
Hindley
Ground
Following
the completion of the new St. Peter's Pavilion site the
access point to the cricket ground has changed. There is
now NO access via the old entrance. Please read the directions
below, even if you have visited HSP before.
(Sat-nav
: 104 or 106 Wigan Road, Hindley, Wigan, WN2 3DF - see below)
Hindley is 3 miles
from Wigan, within easy reach of Manchester and Liverpool,
and only a short distance from the M6, M60, M61 and M62
motorways and the A580 East Lancs Road.
Directions from
Manchester and M61 :
From Manchester, get onto the M60 and follow signs for M61,
Bolton & Preston. Join the M61, leave at Junction 5
and follow the A58 towards Westhoughton and Wigan. Continue
on the A58 (Cricketers Way) through Westhoughton, passing
Westhoughton Cricket Club on the left. At the lights at
the end of Cricketers Way, turn left and follow signs for
Hindley. Continue for 2-3 miles until you reach Hindley
town centre. At the mini-roundabout near St. John's Church,
turn left onto Market Street. Shortly after a pedestrian
crossing, turn right into Cross Street and continue to the
end. At the traffic lights (Wiganer pub on the right), turn
right. After passing a pedestrian crossing take the second turning
on the right into Hurst Street (between nos. 104 and 106
Wigan Road, directly opposite the bus stop). There is a
road sign pointing to "St. Peter's Pavilion",
but it is badly placed and easily missed. On turning into
Hurst Street you will see the entrance gates directly in
front of you.
Directions from Liverpool and M6 : From Liverpool,
take the A580 East Lancs Road as far as the Haydock Interchange.
If you are coming on the M6, leave at Junction 23 to reach
this point. Follow signs for Ashton in Makerfield, passing
the Posthouse Hotel and Haydock Park racecourse on the right.
Continue for half a mile until you reach the traffic lights
in Ashton town centre. Turn right at the lights; the road
then bends to the left along the main street. Go straight
through the next set of traffic lights, following signs
for Platt Bridge and Hindley. At the traffic lights in Platt
Bridge, turn left and continue for about 600 yards until
you reach a roundabout. Turn right at the roundabout, following
signs for Hindley, then continue on this road for 2-3 miles
until you reach the crossroads/traffic lights in Hindley.
The Bird i'th Hand pub is on your left and St. Peter's Church
is on the right. Turn left here into Wigan Road, passing
the Council Offices and the Wiganer pub on the right. Continue through the traffic lights at the Wiganer, and after
passing a pedestrian crossing take the second turning on
the right into Hurst Street (between nos. 104 and 106 Wigan Road, directly
opposite the bus stop). There is a road sign pointing to
"St. Peter's Pavilion", but it is badly placed
and easily missed. On turning into Hurst Street you will see the entrance gates
directly in front of you.
Directions from Wigan : Leave Wigan on the A577
towards Hindley. Go through Ince-in-Makerfield and continue
on the same road, passing under the railway bridge, until
you reach Hindley. Pass La Cava restaurant and the Hockery
Brook pub on your left and, after the gap in the houses
on the left (where the old entrance used to be), take the
next turning between the houses on the left, directly opposite
the bus stop into Hurst Street. There is a road sign pointing to "St. Peter's Pavilion",
but it is badly placed and easily missed. On turning into Hurst Street you will see the entrance gates
directly in front of you.
N.B. Sat-nav issues : The postal address of the St. Peter's Pavilion
site is Hurst Street, Hindley, WN2 3DN, but this postcode
was only allocated in late 2008 and so is unlikely to show
up on sat-nav systems (even new ones). Some systems also
incorrectly show Wigan Road as Atherton Road (including
Google Maps). To overcome these problems use postcode WN2
3DF and house no. 104 or 106.
Aspull
Ground
(Sat-nav
: Woods Road, Aspull, Wigan, WN2 1PJ)
Our 3rd
XI's ground at Aspull is approximately 3 miles from Hindley,
close to the M61 motorway.
Directions from
M61 : Leave the M61
at Junction 6, taking the third exit from the roundabout.
At the next roundabout turn left onto the A6. At the first
set of traffic lights (Royal Oak pub on left), turn right
into Dicconson Lane. Continue along this road until you
reach a mini-roundabout with St. Elizabeth's Church on the
left. Go straight across (ignore signs pointing left to
Hindley) and
follow this road to the end. Bear left towards Wigan and
the cricket ground is a short distance down this road on
the left. Entrance is down the access road next to the Aspull Civic Hall sign
(this is Woods Road but there is no sign showing the name).
Continue to the far end of this access road, bear right
and park in front of the hall.
Directions from Hindley : From the crossroads in
Hindley town centre, take the A58 Market Street (signposted
Bolton). At a mini-roundabout with St. John's Church facing
you, take the left turn onto Ladies Lane. Continue up this
road for approximately 2 miles, passing Hindley railway
station and Hindley Hall Golf Club. At the end of this road,
with St. Elizabeth's Church on the left, turn left and follow
this road to the end. Bear left towards Wigan and the cricket
ground is a short distance down this road on the left. Entrance
is down the access road next to the Aspull Civic Hall sign
(this is Woods Road but there is no sign showing the name).
Continue to the far end of this access road, bear right
and park in front of the hall.
